The new Batman game that critics are raving over is finally here! Batman Arkham Asylum is an action-adventure stealth video game being released for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. Game Informer praised the game, stating “Batman: Arkham Asylum is this year’s “BioShock,” not just from the connection established with the world, but from its ability to innovate where new ideas are needed, and moreover, deliver an adventure unlike any other.” It was rated 9.5/10! Check out this awesome trailer…
If that trailer doesn’t get your mouth watering and your hands yearning for this game, then you should probably watch it again. And again. I don’t know if you were aware of this, but every scene in that trailer is actual in-game footage! Batman Arkham Asylum looks absolutely stunning. It’s not a shock that the critics are raving over it already.
As the trailer depicted, The game begins with Batman apprehending the Joker after his latest plot. Batman escorts him to Arkham Asylum for imprisonment. Due to the Joker’s recent attack on Gotham City’s Blackgate Prison, a large number of sane convicts have been transferred. Shortly after arriving, however, the Joker, with the help of Harley Quinn, frees all of the inmates and locks down the Asylum with Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and most of the staff still inside. The Joker then threatens to detonate bombs all over Gotham if anyone tries to enter. Batman must uncover the full extent of the Joker’s plan while contending with the horrors of Arkham Asylum.
According to Game Informer, the game play places just as much focus on Batman’s role as a detective as on his combat prowess. The game is played mostly in the 3rd-perspective like in Resident Evil 4.
In regards to combat, some boss battles are focused on combat while others will focus on gadgets. Combat description features Batman perched on a high ledge in a wide open room as some of the Joker’s thugs rifle through drawers. Batman switches to detective mode using a blue tinted visor that among other things lets Batman see his enemies through walls and identifies things like guns and knives. One thug is carrying a machine gun, so Batman jumps off the ledge, spreads his cape, and stuns him. He then swipes his cape to stun his other enemies and engages them in combat. FreeFlow Combat is accomplished using only three buttons: Attack, Stun and Takedown.
